Effect of scandium additions on weldability of alloy of Al-Zn-Mg system

Data are presented about the effect of scandium additions in parent metal and filler wires on mechanical properties of welded joints. The susceptibility of joints to hot crack formation in welding experimental aluminium alloy Al-6Zn-2Mg is evaluated. Results of investigations confirmed the high effectiveness of using scandium in the parent metal of alloys of Al-Zn-Mg system and in all filler wires of Al-Mg system which are used in welding alloys of this type.
