E-mail: s.glabets@gmail.comThe paper is devoted to the analysis of the uncertainty components of measuring the size of defects in a butt welded joint by the diffraction-time method (DTM) of ultrasound detection (USD). Used in the work are the results of a comparative study by R.S. Mayworm et al. on echo-pulse and diffraction-time methods for detecting and measuring defect sizes and estimating measurement uncertainty, where the authors focused exclusively on the effect of the distance between the transducers. We have identified the fullest possible range of influencing factors, based on which we have built an Ishikawa diagram and formed an appropriate uncertainty budget. The study was carried out for DTM ultrasonography of butt welded joints of polyethylene pipes, but the approaches presented here can be applied to other types of materials. 12 Ref.,1 Tabl., 10 Fig.
