The scientific and practical aspects of the progressive process based on induction heating and melting of metals with the ingot formation in a sectional cooled mold are presented. The features of melting and crystallization of the metal in a sectional mold are described. The technical characteristics of installations (furnaces) are given developed at the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the NAS of Ukraine. The data on the quality of the produced metal are presented and the promising areas for application of the described process are evaluated.
