AI Usage Policy
General Provisions
This policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies defines the standards and requirements governing the use of AI tools by authors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board of the International Scientific, Technical and Industrial Journal “Electrometallurgy Today” at all stages of preparation, submission, peer review, and editing of scientific publications.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparency, responsible research practices, and compliance with international publication ethics standards, in accordance with Law No. 4742-IX “On Academic Integrity” (dated January 29, 2026) and COPE recommendations.
Definitions
AI tools refer to any automated or semi-automated systems, including generative language models, text analysis tools, image processing algorithms, programming or data analysis tools, as well as language editing services.
Core Principles
Human Responsibility
AI cannot be recognized as an author of a scientific work, as only a human can bear full ethical, legal, and scientific responsibility for the content of a publication.
Transparency
The use of AI must be clearly disclosed in accordance with the requirements of this Policy.
Reliability
Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, validity, and correctness of all results, data, and interpretations, including those generated or modified using AI.
Ethical Compliance
The use of AI must not lead to violations of academic integrity, including data fabrication, plagiarism, fabricated references, or misleading visualizations.
Requirements for Authors
1. Prohibition of AI Authorship
AI tools must not be listed as authors, as they do not meet authorship criteria.
2. Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use
Upon manuscript submission, authors must specify:
- whether AI was used (yes/no);
- the name of the tool (e.g., ChatGPT), version (if applicable), and date of use;
- the purpose and scope of use (e.g., text editing, content generation, data analysis, image creation);
- specific parts of the work where AI was applied.
If AI was used in the research process or data analysis, this must be described in the “Methods and Data” section. In other cases (e.g., language editing), the information may be provided in the “Acknowledgements” section.
3. Responsibility for Content
Authors are required to:
- verify all materials generated or modified using AI;
- ensure the absence of plagiarism, fabricated references, and manipulation;
- guarantee compliance with scientific and ethical standards.
The editorial board may request additional materials (raw data, prompts, source code) to verify reliability.
Use of AI for Images and Graphics
If illustrations, diagrams, maps, or graphs are generated or modified using AI, this must be indicated in the caption, specifying the tool and the nature of its use.
Authors must ensure the accuracy of such materials and avoid misleading the reader, including the creation of visuals that distort real data.
Authors must also ensure they have the appropriate rights to use AI-generated visual materials.
Use of AI by Reviewers
1. Confidentiality
Reviewers are prohibited from uploading manuscripts or any part thereof to third-party AI services that do not guarantee confidentiality.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
If AI is used in preparing a review or for technical editing, the reviewer must inform the editorial office.
Use of AI by the Editorial Board
The editorial board may use AI tools for technical processing (e.g., plagiarism detection, structural analysis, language editing); however, all publication decisions are made exclusively by humans.
Automated outputs must not serve as the sole basis for ethical or editorial decisions; additional expert evaluation is required in such cases.
Use of AI Detection Tools
The editorial board reserves the right to use specialized tools to detect AI-generated text and images. However, the results of such checks are not considered definitive evidence of misconduct. In cases of uncertainty, authors may be asked to provide explanations or additional materials.
Policy Violations
Violations include:
- failure to disclose the use of AI;
- providing false or incomplete information regarding AI use;
- using AI in ways that result in fabricated data, references, or images;
- breaches of confidentiality by reviewers.
Depending on the circumstances, the editorial board may take appropriate measures, including requesting clarification, requiring revisions, rejecting the manuscript, notifying the author’s institution, or retracting the article in accordance with the retraction procedure.
Recommended Statements for Authors
In the cover letter:
“The author(s) declare that AI tool(s) [name, version] were used during the preparation of this publication for [task]. All results generated or modified using AI have been verified and comply with the principles of academic integrity.”
In the article text (Acknowledgements or Methods and Data):
“During the preparation of this manuscript, the AI tool [name, version] was used for [task]. The authors confirm the accuracy and validity of all presented data and conclusions.”
Policy Review
Given the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, this Policy will be regularly reviewed and updated in accordance with changes in legislation and revised recommendations of COPE and other international organizations in the field of scientific publishing.
