The paper deals with principal issues of modern diagnostics of structures in keeping with the new DSTU 9118:2022 «Technical diagnostics. Diagnosing the technical condition of structure materials. General requirements». Theoretical and practical components were substantiated, which are required to build modern diagnostic systems. The new emphasis is on the need for a comprehensive use of fundamental and engineering studies. Presence of yet unsolved problems is shown in the case of acousticemission diagnostics, and directions of further development and improvement of theoretical fundamentals of the technology of assessment of the state of structures are outlined. 6 Ref.
