Abstract
The results of experimental investigations into the dynamics of the temperature and depth of the molten metal pool during
electroslag remelting (ESR) under conditions of reduced or completely interrupted electrical power supply to the molten pool
are presented. The experiments were carried out during the production of carbon steel ingots in water-cooled copper molds with
diameters of 85, 125, and 220 mm. The relationships between the molten pool depth, pool temperature, and cooling time were
established for different ingot diameters and cooling conditions. Longitudinal macrosections were prepared to determine the
metal pool profiles for ingots of the specified diameters. The experimental results obtained can be used for validating mathematical
models and for developing operating parameters for the electroslag remelting of steels and alloys.
