Abstract
Surface treatment of steel parts and units with a high-temperature plasma is an efficient, cost-effective and practicable process. Plasma hardening of sliding surfaces of wheels and tyres of railway trains, combined with slow cooling within a temperature range of 800-400 oC, leads to an improvement of the quenching structures and increase in the hardened zone sizes.
Keywords: plasma treatment, hardening, quenching structure, microhardness, performance
