Abstract
The
mode of fracture of welded joints in heat-resistant steel 18Kh3M under conditions
of synthesis of ammonia is considered. It has been established that the
main cause of fracture is a combined unfavourable effect of postweld heat
treatment of welded joints and creep process. The cold cracks are initiated
in the higher-hardness quenching structures and contribute to the initiation
of creep microfractures. Atomic hydrogen formed under a pressure of 32 MPa
and 340 C temperature causes the accelerated propagation of cracks until
they penetrate through a parent metal.
