Heterogeneity of pipe steel joints made by flash butt welding.
2
Results of examination of physical, chemical and structural inhomogeneity of joints from low-alloyed low-carbon pipe steels made by the flash butt welding are presented. It is shown that changes in chemical composition and metal structure and also the decrease in its density is occurred in the butt at the area corresponding to the location of a light band. Ferritic band and joint line are revealed inside the dark band after appropriate heat treatment and etching.

Effect of microstructural transformations on redistribution of hydrogen in fusion welding of structural steels.
6
Kinetics of distribution of hydrogen in the HAZ metal formed in welding of a root butt joint in structural steel of the A-508 type was investigated by numerical methods. The effect of chemical composition of steel and kinetics of microstructural transformations in the melting zone during welding on a local distribution of hydrogen is shown.

Non-consumable electrode argon-arc welding of aluminium alloys with arc oscillations.
18
The effect of arc oscillations occurring as a result of alternating current passing through the region of filler on the shape of penetration, hardness, structure and mechanical properties of welds in argon-arc non-consumable electrode welding aluminium alloys 1201, AMg6, 1420 and 1460 has been investigated. It is shown that the sizes of penetration of welds depend on values of current passing through the arc gap and the filler wire region, and the frequency of changing their polarities. It was established that at similar depth of penetration the width of welds and degree of weakening of welded joints produced by welding with arc oscillations are less than those in welding with a stationary arc. Intensive stirring of the molten metal and change in conditions of its solidification promote the formation of fine equiaxial dendrites, thus increasing the hardness of weld metal and its strength.

Special conditions for formation of joints in shock wave welding of metals.
28
In explosion welding of pure aluminium, the initial region of a joint can be formed under special conditions, corresponding to a high-velocity movement of a contact point. This region of the joint is characterised by high porosity and low strength, and only special measures allow shortening its length or eliminating it completely. An interpretation of the mechanism of formation of cumulative jets is given, attributing it to the instability of flow of the surface metal layer, which is slowed down upon approaching the contact zone of plates. It is suggested that the same mechanism is responsible for the formation of "humps" under conditions of explosion welding involving wave generation.

Deposition of oxide coatings on surfaces of products of aluminium-based alloys.
44
The theory of conductivity of the electrolyte in a microdischarge process of oxidising of the working surfaces of products from the aluminium-based alloys is considered. Technology and technological fixture for the formation of a porous oxide coating on the surface of piston combustion chamber and a compact coating of up to 150 mm thickness and hardness up to 8 GPa on the inner surface of the cylinder are developed. The technology makes it possible to form the composite coatings with introducing dispersed ceramic particles. The offered technological fixture provides the coating formation on the working surfaces of the products manufactured from the metals used for valves.
