Requirements for the formatting of manuscripts submitted to the editorial board of the “The Paton Welding Journal” journal

Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted directly to the editorial board by the authors.
The journal accepts for consideration previously unpublished articles presenting the results of fundamental theoretical research and the most significant applied studies. Articles are accepted in Ukrainian or English in doc/docx formats and are subject to mandatory peer review.
Manuscripts must be accompanied by a license agreement for the use of the work: transfer of copyright for the publication of the article to the journal publisher (license agreement form).

Submission of the manuscript

The manuscript of the article must be submitted electronically to the editorial office at journal@paton.kiev.ua
The total length of the manuscript is up to 20 pages; the number of figures and/or photographs is up to 16, including a, b, etc.

Requirements for the manuscript

• the article must be relevant to the journal’s subject matter;
• the article must be original, demonstrate scientific novelty, and have practical significance;
• the title of the article must correspond to its content.

Article Structure: the following information is provided at the beginning of the article (in the original language):

• title, initials, and last name(s) of the author(s), and the ORCID of each author. Particular attention must be paid to the correct spelling of last names and initials in English;
• the official name of the institution(s) and the full mailing address(es);
• the email address of one of the authors for correspondence;
• an abstract of 1,800–2,000 characters, which should reflect a logical sequence of results, describe the main objective of the study, and summarize the most significant findings. The abstract must be substantive, not repeat the title of the article, not contain general phrases, not duplicate the “Conclusions” section, and briefly reflect the content of the article;
• keywords — no more than 8 words.

The text of the article in the original language

The manuscript should be structured into the following sections:

• Introduction: outline the problem statement, the relevance of the chosen topic, and an analysis of recent studies and publications;
• Objective of the study;
• Main body of the study: present the main findings, including the scientific facts obtained, the methodology used to collect and analyze the data;
• Conclusions: summarize the work, its scientific novelty, and prospects for further research in this area;
• Funding: provide information on the source of funding for the work, grants, and any other financial support for the research; use only the full names of scientific institutions and sponsors;
• Acknowledgments: provide general information regarding any assistance in conducting the research and preparing the article;
• List of numbered references in the order of citation, including DOI numbers (if available).

The English-language section (if the manuscript is in Ukrainian) must include:

• the title of the article;
• the last name, first name, and patronymic of all authors;
• the full names and mailing addresses of the organizations where the authors are employed;
• an abstract;
• a bibliography in the following format: 30 Ref., 6 Tabl., Fig. 16;
• keywords (Key words);
• a list of references in Latin script: authors’ last names in Latin script, titles in English translation; journal titles transliterated from Cyrillic. At the end of each reference (for non-English publications), the original language of the article must be indicated in parentheses: [Ukr] or [Rus]. Articles published in foreign journals are submitted under their original titles with DOI identifiers.

If the manuscript is submitted in English, a corresponding section in Ukrainian must be included at the end of the article.

Article text. Use Microsoft Word (doc/docx) to format the text, with Times New Roman 12 pt font, 1.5 line spacing, A4 paper size, with margins of 2.5 cm at the top, bottom, and left, 1.00 cm on the right, justified alignment, no automatic hyphenation, and a first-line indent of 1.25 cm. The article title should be in 12 pt bold uppercase font, centered. The article is formatted without headers, footers, or page numbers. Equations must be typeset in MathType as separate objects. Times New Roman 12 pt, centered, numbered in parentheses, right-aligned. Presenting an equation and its number as a table is not permitted. Symbols in formulas and in the text must have the same appearance. It is not recommended to place Microsoft Equation objects within the text of the article. Latin symbols are printed in italics, Greek symbols in regular type.
Physical, chemical, technical, and mathematical terms, units of physical quantities, and symbols must be generally accepted. Abbreviations for units of physical quantities must comply with the requirements of the International System of Units (SI). Authors must adhere to the basic rules for letter symbols of physical quantities in accordance with the provisions of International Standard IEC 60027-1.
Figures must be submitted in TIFF, JPG, or CDR formats (300 dpi) without captions and inserted into the text as “Figure”. The font for text in figures is Times New Roman 8 pt. Recommended figure dimensions: 8.5 cm wide for column placement, 17 cm wide for page placement. Captions and explanations for figures must be provided in the text after the corresponding figure (Times New Roman 12 pt.). Figures should be included in the text after the first reference to them, with the figure number indicated.
If a figure or table does not fit entirely on the page where it is first mentioned, it should be placed at the beginning of the next page.
Photographs should be submitted in TIFF or JPG format (300 dpi, CMYK/Grayscale).
Tables should be created using the table editor in MS Word and included in the text immediately after the first reference to the table, with the table number indicated; use Times New Roman 10 pt font. If there are several tables (no more than 6), each must have a sequential number. The designation “Table 1. Table title” is printed to the left above the table in 10 pt bold font. If there is only one table, it is not numbered.
The list of numbered references (in both Ukrainian and English) cited by the author must be formatted according to the Harvard Style bibliographic citation standard. Each source should be listed on a separate line, using Times New Roman 12 pt. In the text, a cited source is indicated in square brackets by a number corresponding to its number in the reference list. References to unpublished and unfinished works are not permitted.
The reference list must consist of 10–30 sources relevant to the article’s topic, including:

• at least 50% of the sources must have a DOI;
• at least 25% of the sources must be references to journal articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science;
• the percentage of self-citations by the authors must not exceed 25%;
• the percentage of references to publications from the The Paton Welding Journal journal must not exceed 25%.

It is not recommended to use consecutive numbering in the reference list or in the numbering of formulas.

Attention! Before using sources, we recommend that you review the recommendations of the Ethics Committee of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine regarding the cessation (restriction) of the use of information sources from the aggressor state in scientific publications.
An English-language list of references (REFERENCES) should follow the list of references.
Transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet into the Latin script must be performed in accordance with Resolution No. 55 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated January 27, 2010. Articles that do not comply with these requirements will be returned to the author without review.
The date of receipt by the editorial office shall be considered the date of resubmission of the article, formatted in accordance with the above requirements.
