Abstract
An algorithm is developed for solving the quasi-stationary temperature problem taking into account the heat of melting and solidification, based on the method of sources (Green function). The case of welding thin aluminium plate is used to demonstrate that the melting heat has a significant influence on the shape and dimensions of the weld pool and solid-liquidus zone. It is noted that the thermal efficiency of the process of melting ht of a plate by a linear source can be much higher than 0.4839 with allowance for the melting heat. Known simplified methods with allowance for melting heat may lead to significant errors in ht determination. A comparison of calculated and experimental shape of the weld pool is given.
