The paper considers the features of electroslag surfacing in small-sized current-conducting moulds with a diameter of 65…85 mm, where limited geometric dimensions significantly affect the thermal state of slag and metal pools, metal crystallization conditions, and stability of deposited layer formation. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of the location of introducing non-current-conducting flux-cored wires into the slag pool on the thermal conditions of the process, penetration geometry of the base metal, and quality of bimetallic product formation. It was established that introducing a non-current-conducting flux-cored wire into the peripheral zone of the slag pool changes the local thermal balance of the process. An additional cooling effect appears in the near-wall regions of the metal pool, which reduces the temperature gradient between the central and peripheral zones. This ensures a more uniform heat distribution across the mould section, stabilizes the depth of the metal pool, and creates favorable conditions for forming a continuous deposited layer with minimal and circumferentially uniform penetration of the base metal. The proposed technological approach remains effective when flux-cored wires of different diameters and chemical compositions are used. The results confirmed the possibility of purposeful control of the thermal state of the pool through the selection of the filler introduction zone, which expands the technological capabilities of electroslag surfacing and enables production of high quality small-sized bimetallic components with stable geometric and structural characteristics. 14 Ref., 1 Tabl., 5 Fig.
