Peculiarities of arc treatment of quenching steels without melting

Abstract
The
effect of conditions of argon-arc tungsten-electrode treatment of steels
on the thermal cycle parameters is investigated. It is shown that to avoid
incipient melting at an increase in amperage, it is necessary to raise the
rate of treatment, increase the arc length to 7-15 mm and impart transverse
oscillations to the arc. The treatment conditions allow the temperature
of a short-time heating, duration of metal dwelling in a heated state and
cooling rate to be controlled.
